WHY SHOULD I PRAISE?

The Experience of Praise and Restoration

Electricity was restored to my place after almost six months! This happened after a night when we praised God very strongly because the Spirit was prompting us to praise. We didn’t have electricity or anything specific in mind while we praised.
I’ve seen this happen at different times in my life – when God prompts greater, stronger praise, it’s usually because some victory is coming. You don’t have to know the reason before you obey the Spirit’s prompting. Every time we carry out an act of compliance or obedience, it results in a victory.

The Heart Behind True Praise

But, some people will not praise properly until they have a motive or reason to. They don’t do anything for free. ‘Why should the praises go up now? Are there blessings that are coming down?’ they ask. Every weapon needs a base. The weapon of praise, like an arrow, must be shot from a bow – your mouth, just like a bullet is shot from a gun. With praise, the safest base is gratitude and the leading of the Spirit, not what you want.

Gratitude, Obedience, and Victory

You need gratitude and obedience to yield to the leading of the Spirit. Victories are won by those who obey, not by those who scheme, because God sees through all your schemes. He sees the person who is doing something just because of what they want. Now, you may look around and say, ‘But I’m not feeling very grateful today. I can’t find anything to be grateful for’. Obedience should always override feelings. Shoot praise from a place of obedience and love. Do not shoot it from a place of a selfish motive or greed.
