They move among us quietly—
friends, siblings, kind strangers—
with warm smiles and gentle counsel.
They believe they mean well,
never sensing the shadows
that ride on certain words they speak.
“I only want what’s best for you,” they say,
Advice that sounds caring and harmless,
yet slowly bends the heart,
one quiet step away from obedience.
They are angels on assignment,
not crowned with glory,
but unknowingly carrying whispers
that lead others off the narrow path.
They think they walk in daylight,
yet the night borrows their footsteps.
A friend may say,
“Don’t take your faith too seriously.”
Another may urge,
“Why wait on God?
Just follow your heart.”
They mean no harm;
they simply speak from what they know.
Yet their voices are tuned to the wrong frequency.
And darkness smiles,
for its most effective messengers
are often those who believe they are only helping.
Yet grace still shines.
The Spirit lights a lantern
in the hearts of those who listen,
revealing the subtle drift.
So we walk carefully,
with discerning hearts
and ears tuned
to the Shepherd’s voice.
For many move through the world
as angels on assignment,
not sent by Heaven,
yet unaware
of whose errands they run.
