Last week, we saw from the scriptures that certain people saw God. What then do the same scriptures mean when it also says no one has seen, or can see God? What if “seeing God” is currently impossible, but possible in the future?

PRESENT IMPOSSIBILITY?
John 1:18 – “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.”
1 Timothy 6:16 – “who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.”
1 John 4:12 – No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us, and his love is perfected in us.
These passages say it is and has always been impossible to see God. EXCEPT, of course, the Lord Jesus Christ.

FUTURE POSSIBILITY?
Psalm 11:7 – “For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.”
Psalm 17:15 – “As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.”
Psalm 27:4 – “One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.
Hebrews 12:14 – “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
1 John 3:2 – “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
1 Corinthians 13:12 – “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
These scriptures tell us that some people, indeed, will see God some time in the future. But it also says we see Him but not “fully”?
We begin to untangle this enigma next.
