Am I really ready to undertake this journey?
To be bound to a damsel in holy matrimony?
Do I have what it takes to build a godly home?
Will my seeds meet harsh sand or fertile loam?
I have seen people have marriages that are thorny
Many of them claim it’s a result of having little money
Others say they simply ran out of patience and love
Their marriages folded when life threw them a curve
And life is notorious for frequently throwing those
It is certain that we will have times of highs and lows
What can make any marriage stand the test of time?
What can keep a couple devoted way past their prime?
I don’t doubt that I love her, I know I do.
But many divorced couples made this claim too
They went from “madly in love” and “I can’t live without you”
To “Let’s get divorced, our ‘irreconcilable differences’ are not few’
I have given these questions quite some thought
And this is my conclusion, believe it or not
Marriage is less of a playground for games and a fun fair
And more of a battleground for life’s serious warfare
Will my marriage be able to weather the storms?
Will we be able to tackle whatever comes?
Will my marriage add to the burgeoning divorce statistics?
My thoughts race as my heart echoes with fearful acoustics
I must get these troubling thoughts to leave
I shouldn’t be thinking about this on my wedding eve
I know that I am about to become a married man
But this too is in fulfilment of God’s elaborate plan
I was diligent in seeking to hear His voice
While in the process of making this momentous choice
God gave her to me, like He gave Boaz, Ruth
This I know to be the simple truth
I know this does not mean there’ll be no challenges
We will face storms like all other marriages
But I can rest easy and be at peace
For with me is the One who can make storms cease
I can confidently step out tomorrow to claim my bride
For the word of God and His Spirit will be our guide
I know that both of us will sometimes make mistakes
But the threefold cord of God, my bride, and I has all it takes
