There is a real risk of being led astray, even amongst those who have been called and chosen as the Lord’s people.
Mark 13:5
Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you.”
Matthew 24:24
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
This deception is the result of the company one keeps.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
To overcome this inclination to stray in our hearts, we must learn His ways.
Hebrews 3:10
That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.
His sheep know His voice.
John 10:27-28
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
2 Timothy 3:12-17
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived…
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Take heed to the scriptures, and you will be able to keep yourself being – and your brethren – from led astray.
James 5:19-20
Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
