"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5
Definition
Mild, gentle, i.e. humble.
Psalms 37:11
But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
To the meek and lowly, the Lord promises ownership of the earth in His coming Kingdom.
Matthew 11:25-27
At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
We learn meekness by imitating Jesus. Just as He submitted Himself to the Father’s will, bore His yoke, and is the Heir of all things, so also will the meek be rewarded in glory.
Colossians 3:12-14
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
Meekness is precious in the Lord’s sight.
1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a meek and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
