I WAS LIKE A DIRTY CLOTH

I was like a dirty cloth,
Stained with permanent marker.
I felt I could not be cleaned by my Maker.
Ashamed of myself, I decided to flee,
But God said, “There’s a special soap for thee.

He called it the ‘Blood of Jesus,
A soap that can cleanse all sin from us.
Then He soaked me in clean, living water-
For the first time, I felt hope; I knew I had a Father.

But soon, I noticed I was just in the water.
Nothing seemed to change… what was the matter?
My stains were still there,
Still looking like hell.
Surely God had left; surely He didn’t care.

“He must be tired of me,” I thought sadly,
“This righteousness thing… it’s not for me.”
Once again, I decided to flee.

But He called me back, saying, “This is just stage one.
I have not even applied the soap meant for everyone.
You must trust and obey,
For there is no other way.”

Then suddenly hot water, and even bleach!
I was afraid, sure I would flinch,
And again… I wanted to flee.

But He called me back and began His wash,
Steadily scrubbing with soap and brush.
He scrubbed my neck, my belly,
And whispered gently, “You are My lily.

When He reached my armpits, I trembled in fear,
The stains were too dark, too stubborn, too near.
Again, I thought of running away,
The process felt too long, too hard to stay.
But He said, “You’ve come this far;
Soon, you will shine like a star.”

After the washing, I was rinsed
Once and for all, freed from my sins.
I could hardly believe how clean I could be…
Could this actually be me?

I thought He was done,
So I planned to be gone.
But He said, “You still must dry beneath the sun.
Straighten by My iron
And be called Mount Zion,
Lest you fall, get stained again,
And think My work was done in vain.”

When I was dry, my heart leapt with glee.
Then He asked, “May I wear you for all to see?
Would you be My favorite T-shirt,

A cloth once stained, now free from dirt?
