A Call to Speak Openly
Hours had passed since Sajid, a twenty seven year old evangelist, had boarded a bus in order to share the gospel in one of Pakistan’s more dangerous areas. As the bus rumbled along, he conversed with several passengers seated near him; and, despite the fact that Muslim extremists in this area prowled for Jesus’ followers like lions seeking prey, he began talking about Jesus. What gave him the courage to speak so openly? When he attended Bible school years earlier, Sajid had dreamt that a large open door stood at the entrance to one of Pakistan’s prominent cities. He believed that the dream was God’s way of guiding him in opening new doors for the gospel. During the decade following that dream, Sajid led hundreds of Pakistanis to Christ.
Challenged for His Faith
A bearded man seated nearby shook his head. “You Christians do not consider anything about our prophet, so why should we listen to you talk about your Bible?” Sajid measured his response and resisted any attempt to be impolite; but, as 1 Peter 3:15 says, he was prepared to defend the reason for his faith. “Our Bible,” he answered, “makes no reference to your prophet.” “The prophet was written in your Bible!” the man retorted angrily. “But you people would not accept it. You changed the words to your own!” Realizing it would be futile to try to reason with him, Sajid ended the conversation. Shortly after Sajid got off the bus, about a dozen men grabbed him, tied a blindfold over his eyes, and shoved him into the backseat of a car.
