Brother, beware; Sister, beware!
When you seem to no longer care.
When scriptures become strangers to you
And the time you spend with God, too few
When mundane affairs, your thoughts consume
And the shape of the world you start to assume
Beware! When the word of God always bites
And “the things above” have disappeared from your sight
When there is little or no distinction
Between you and the children of perdition
Brother, beware; Sister, beware!
When God’s word, you no longer share.
When there is “simply no time anymore,”
To sit with God in quiet reverence and awe
When you no longer feel joy within
As people say, “Come, it’s time for the church meeting.”
When days on end go by,
And all you did with God was “Hi and bye”
When most of your thoughts are earthly
And you love the things of the world dearly
Brother, beware; Sister, beware!
When sound teaching, you can no longer bear
And you despise all training and exhortation
Beware! When you “simply want your space”
And the appearance of brethren puts a frown on your face
Beware! When prayer and Bible study,
Become endeavours you no longer count worthy
Of your time, effort and other resources
When “comfort” and “ease” are all your soul discusses
Do not shrug this off and say it is not for you
Many have fallen, take heed lest you fall too
All this will not happen on the same day
But little by little, you are drawn away
Until you find yourself living in Sodom
And how you got there, you cannot fathom
It starts with “little” disobediences and a refusal to repent
As you turn away from the Shepherd’s voice to listen to the Serpent
Beware then brethren and ensure that you constantly expose
Yourself to God’s words (the scriptures), therein is true safety and repose.
