Definition

  1. one who answers, an interpreter
  2. an actor, stage player (historically, actors wore masks embodying the characters they played)
  3. a dissembler, pretender, hypocrite (the usage of the word in Scriptures)

Jesus rebuked the religious people who pretended to be righteous, but were full of wickedness.

Remember – men may look at the outward, but God sees the heart. So as we strive to walk in the light and live in the truth, remember that many things (and people) are not what they appear to be.
