They say it is a virtue
Displayed by the ability to calmly chew
All the hard bones that life throws at you
While you’re still trying to make it through
Many claim they possess it
Only to snap out of control when things get lit
They roar, grumble, and call it quits
Forgetting PATIENCE is developed and not a gift
Patience is a close kin to longsuffering
“Walk away” life says but you keep enduring
Many times the experiences keep you crying
But even though you fall, you continue trying
Patience is not formed in one day
You must be fired up in the kiln just like clay
You may be so broken you have nothing to say
Until at last your self-pride begins to decay
But will you wait for this most tardy of fruit
To be fully formed in you and take root?
And when the tests appear more than you can handle
Will you trust God’s injunctions and still hold up the candle?
