Strong’s Definition
‘cheerfulness, i.e. calm delight — gladness, greatly, (exceeding) joy’
The joy of the Lord is described as our strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
1 Chronicles 16:27
“Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.“
As we look to Him and trust in His strength, we are strengthened with joy; even in the midst of suffering.
Colossians 1:11
“…strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;“”
Just as the Lord endured the suffering of the cross, looking towards the joy set before Him, we are to take up our crosses armed with the joy of the Lord!
Psalms 35:9
Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in His salvation.
