Definition
Opaque (as if smoky), i.e. (by analogy) blind (physically or mentally):-blind.
Tuphlos simply means ‘blindness’.
Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near Him heard these things, and said to Him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.” John 9:39-41
Spiritual Blindness Refers to Ignorance or the Lack of Knowledge
His watchmen are blind; they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. Isaiah 56:10
God’s people perish for being ignorant (Hosea 4:6).
When people who are blind (ignorant) are given the opportunity to see (the opportunity to learn something they do not know), they must not reject it by saying that they are okay and do not need that information. It is because of this pride that God’s people are destroyed (Proverbs 16:18).
The Bible tells us that God overlooks days of ignorance, but He will not overlook it when people are given the opportunity to have light (knowledge), and they refuse it.
The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent. Acts 17:30
People are blind in different areas. For every place where you are ignorant, you are in darkness in that area, but the word of God is the light that can give light to our paths, and keep us from stumbling.
Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path. The explanation of Your teachings gives light and brings wisdom to the ignorant. Psalms 119:105, 130
Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD; His going out is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth. Hosea 6:3
This is why we must press on to know God in different areas. Never get satisfied. Know what He says about different areas of life. Don’t reject an opportunity to learn God’s words while claiming that you see. Brighten up your life with God’s word everyday!
