Author: The Prophet
I haven’t been for more than 50 years but I am not that young.
In my years of existence, there are many interesting things I have seen under the sun.
Today, I will talk about one.
Philip and Brownson got born again on the same day. They were two friends out of a clique of seven. I remember seeing Philip falling under the power of the Holy Spirit and prophesying, and when he came out of the experience, he testified of seeing the spirits of just men like Abraham, Joel, and Elijah.
Brownson, on the other hand, didn’t seem promising at all if one was to judge outwardly. He was calm, collected, and seemed turned off by all the drama. From his eyes, the church meeting felt like a contrived situation because there was no way Philip was more worthy than him.
By the next couple of meetings, Philip came, but Brownson did not. I suspected he didn’t feel the Christian journey was for him because he didn’t have any spiritual encounter after having prayed for it for years.
After much encouragement, he came along and learned to walk by faith and not by sight.
Fast forward to a year later, Brownson grew strong in the Lord and the Word, and Philip grew more prophetic. They were both consistent with meetings, but I began to see strange things.
Brownson loved to obey instructions, but Philip loved to disregard them and “I’m sorry” was a phrase familiar with his lips, right before he still went ahead to do whatever was on his mind.
Brownson left the rest of his friends in the clique because he knew they had the capacity to change him, more than he could change them. But Philip felt he was powerful enough to change them all and wouldn’t cut ties.
Brownson was accountable to the pastoral oversight over him, but Philip shared only what he felt was worth sharing. The rest of his activities were kept secret.
Gradually, Philip started to come late for meetings, till he stopped coming entirely. When he was asked why, he said he didn’t feel anything was wrong because God still talked to him via prophetic encounters. He went back to his old friends, and hung out with old (and new) flames, until he was cut off from light and life in the spirit.
But Brownson, the one who had nothing ‘spiritually tangible’ to hold onto at the start of his Christian journey, is still standing and growing stronger in the Lord. He is calmly prophetic and has learned a lot about how to walk by faith.
I concluded that of all the strange things under the sun, one of the strangest is that: ‘Supernatural experiences do not keep a person. Obedience does.’
