Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Baptism of the Holy Spirit Reinhard needed the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In 1951 Revd Kukula was coming to Glückstadt. Hermann asked Reinhard whether he would like to accompany him. Reinhard needed no second invitation. No sooner had Reinhard got on his knees that the power of God came upon him. He burst forth in other tongues. During one prayer meeting. Reinhard felt an electric power. He heard the Holy Spirit telling him to lay his hands upon a woman. He did not want to do it. But the Holy Spirit increased the power flow. He crept across the floor. He said, ‘I want to pray for you.’ She agreed and was healed; from there the healing ministry of Reinhard Bonnke began.
A Vision of Africa and the Call to Ministry
In 1957, Reinhard received a vision of a map of Africa, with the city of Johannesburg highlighted. He kept the vision to himself, but later consulted a world atlas. When he located Johannesburg, he found it was exactly where the vision had shown it to him. Reinhard called to full-time Ministry His father said, “To be a missionary, you must learn a trade.” Reinhard unwillingly attended carpentry school. The master carpenter screamed at him and finally chased him out, yelling, “You will never be a carpenter!” Crying all the way home, Reinhard believed his missionary call was over. Later, he began raising support from Pentecostal groups for the missionary. He received little help, leaving his path forward unclear.
The Tent Evangelist
The Tent Evangelist Reverend Franz Wegner approached Reinhard. “The Holy Spirit tells me that you are to be our tent evangelist.” Reinhard and his father were amazed. “How long?” “Three weeks.” Reinhard hardly felt ready but he promised to pray. Reinhard knelt and these words burned in his heart: Go, and twelve baskets full shall remain! He agreed to preach. There, the gift of the evangelist was at work; many raised their hands for salvation in every service.
Might such a girl be God’s choice for me?
Reinhard began to notice a pretty girl. The call to Africa was uppermost in his heart. He wondered if she might be a lifelong match. He asked her, “If God called you to Africa, would you go?” “No,” she replied. “Never. I would never leave Germany.” His interest died. He began to receive offers to serve. This placed strain on his relationship with his father. He did not want his brothers to think he was trying to take Martin’s place. He felt he should make a completely new mark. He could go where no church existed. To be continued…
