Author: James Strong

"...rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving." Colossians 2:7

Strong’s Definition

To cause to take root; plant, fix firmly, establish. From rhiza; to root.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”

Believers are sometimes compared to trees. We are trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord (Isaiah 61:3).

John 15:4-5

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Our root is Christ, from whom we spring, and through whom we are filled with the fruits of righteousness. (Proverbs 11:30, James 3:18)

John 15:10

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

By remaining rooted in Him – in His love we bear much fruit, to God’s glory (John 15:8).

Philippians 1:9-11

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

If we are not found rooted in Him, then we will suffer great loss!

Matthew 3:10

And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
