CHARLES FINNEY-THE FATHER OF MODERN REVIVALISM(PART 7)

A Life-Changing Encounter

Charles described what happened at that moment: I had accompanied him to the door; and as I closed the door and turned around, my heart seemed to be liquid within me. All my feelings seemed to rise and flow out; and the utterance of my heart was, “I want to pour my whole soul out to God.”

Meeting Jesus Face-to-Face
As I went in and shut the door after me, it seemed as if I met the Lord Jesus Christ face to face. He said nothing, but looked at me in such a manner as to break me right down at His feet… I fell down at His feet and poured out my soul to Him.

The Baptism of the Holy Ghost
I received a mighty baptism of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit descended upon me in a manner that seemed to go through me, body and soul. It seemed like waves and waves of liquid love.

A New Language
God’s love rolled over him in wave after wave. Charles’s “unutterable gushings” were likely the beginning of a prayer language. A choir member asked what was wrong. Charles replied, “No, but so happy that I cannot live.” TO BE CONTINUED…
