Breaking New Ground Among Muslim Nations
After the nation-changing crusades in Thailand, Tommy and Daisy Osborn went to Java, where about 95 per cent of the population was Muslim. Some Christians there were afraid. They wondered if it was wise to gather thousands of Muslims together, speak to them about Jesus, and pray for the sick.
This was the Osborns’ first time preaching to Muslims with miracles following the message. The meetings continued for several weeks, with preaching, teaching, and praying taking place day after day.
Returning to India With Power
After the great Java crusades, the Osborns preached across many nations of the world. Eventually, their long-held dream came true. They returned to India. They went back to the same city where, fourteen years earlier, they had spoken to Muslims and Hindus but could not prove whether the Koran or the Bible was truly God’s Word.
This time, everything was different.
They leased a large open field near the great stadium in the university city of Lucknow. Between 50,000 and 60,000 people attended the crusade. They boldly proclaimed to the masses that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and has risen from the dead. Great faith filled the crowd, and hundreds of people were miraculously healed.
A Supernatural Encounter in the Crowd
One night, at the far edge of the crowd, there stood a young university student who was an agnostic. He strongly disliked everything being said about Jesus Christ. As the Osborns preached, the Lord suddenly appeared right in front of him. Jesus opened His hands so the young man could see the scars and said,
“Behold My hands! I am Jesus!”
The student fell to the ground, weeping and crying. Then he ran to the platform and shouted to the crowd,
“Accept this Jesus! What this man is telling us is true!”
That night, thousands believed in Jesus Christ.
Public Proclamation in Non-Christian Nations
Such methods had not been seen since the time of the Early Church. The Osborns were the first, since that era, to install large platforms, lights, and public address systems in parks, fields, and stadiums within non-Christian nations. There, they preached openly and prayed for God’s miraculous confirmation that Jesus Christ is the same today as He was in Bible times.
Their example inspired national men and women around the world to rise as gospel messengers and church builders in unreached nations. Tommy later testified that he and Daisy were the first, since the Early Church, to publicly proclaim Christ in non-Christian nations where people of all religions could hear the gospel and see it confirmed by healing miracles.
Powerful Ministry in Nigeria
In Uyo, Nigeria, at least 200,000 people attended one of their meetings. Many accepted Jesus Christ. Remarkable miracles took place. The deaf heard, the crippled walked, a former leper rejoiced over healed feet, blind people received sight, and a paralysed child walked perfectly.
A former witchdoctor publicly renounced his past. A young man who had been a violent maniac for eight years was instantly restored to his right mind as a growth in his throat disappeared.
Throughout his ministry, Tommy avoided competition with other ministers. He focused instead on overseas evangelism, walking in peace and unity, and remaining faithful to his calling.
