THE OSBORNS (THE PIONEERS OF MASS MIRACLE ENVANGELISM) PART 4

You Can Do That” – Witnessing God’s Power in Action

In September 1947, the Osborns returned to Portland to pastor Montavilla Tabernacle. Soon after, Gordon Lindsay brought William Branham to the city for a Healing Campaign. Tommy longed to see miracles. Daisy attended first and returned deeply amazed.

Tommy then announced that he must attend the meeting, saying,
“I needed miracles… I had a chance to see His miracles in action, and I must go.”

At the meeting, deaf ears opened and blind eyes saw. When Branham cast out a deaf-and-dumb spirit, Tommy suddenly heard what sounded like a thousand voices saying,
“You can do that!”

They returned home completely changed.

“As I Have Been With Others, I Will Be With You”

Tommy and Daisy decided to read the New Testament as though they had never read it before. Tommy locked himself in their basement for three days and nights without food or water, seeking God to speak to him personally. Daisy could not join him because she had to care for the children, but she committed herself to the same spiritual goal.

Tommy told her,
“Honey, take the church, pastor it… don’t look for me… I’m not coming out until I have heard from the Lord.”

As Tommy knelt and opened the Bible, God spoke to him, though at first he did not recognise His voice. The same message came repeatedly until he finally accepted it:

“As I have been with others, so will I be with you. Wherever you go, I will give you the land. No demon, no disease, or no power can stand before you all the days of your life, if you can get the people to believe My Word.”

He remembered hearing the same revelation earlier:
“You can do that! That is the way Jesus did it! That proves the Bible is for today!”

They discovered scriptures showing that believers have authority over devils and diseases. They realised that the Holy Spirit was given not only for tongues or holiness, but to prove that Jesus is the risen Son of God.

The Beginning of Tommy Osborn’s Healing Ministry

They began announcing healing meetings through radio and newspapers, inviting the sick and assuring them that God would heal. Large crowds filled the church. One by one, people were miraculously healed.

The first was a woman who had been on crutches for fourteen years due to a broken, rigid hip. Tommy took her crutches, threw them down, and commanded,
“In the name of Jesus, walk!”

She walked perfectly, her face radiant with joy.

This miracle reminded them of India and the unreached multitudes who needed proof that Jesus is alive.
“Now we could prove it! The proof is in the miracles.”

Over 9,000 People Accept Christ in Jamaica

Unable to afford a return to India, they went to Jamaica for thirteen weeks. Night after night, hundreds lined up for individual prayer. Tommy prayed for one line, while Daisy prayed for another.

Blind eyes opened, deaf mutes spoke, and cripples walked. Over 9,000 people accepted Christ. More than 90 totally blind people instantly received sight, 125 deaf mutes instantly spoke and heard, and hundreds more were gradually healed.

They saw more fruit in one night than they had seen in the previous seven years combined.

F. F. Bosworth Stands With the Osborns

After Jamaica, they were invited to Flint, Michigan, to continue William Branham’s crusade after he became exhausted. This marked the true beginning of their ministry in the United States.

F. F. Bosworth stood with them and taught them biblical principles for mass miracle evangelism. He explained how God could heal many people at the same time through His Word, just as He did with Moses, the brazen serpent, and when Jesus healed “them all.”

Bosworth emphasised that when God heals one person, it proves that He wants to heal everyone. These teachings prepared Tommy and Daisy Osborn for a worldwide ministry that would reach multitudes with salvation and miracle healing.
