EXAMPLES OF MUSIC MINISTERS
DAVID
“David assigned the following men to lead the music at the house of the Lord after the Ark was placed there. They ministered with music at the Tabernacle until Solomon built the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. They carried out their work, following all the regulations handed down to them. 1 Chronicles 6:31-32 NLT
“David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as musicians to make a joyful sound with musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.” 1 Chronicles 15:16 NIV
SOLOMON
“Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord… that the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud.” 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 NKJV

NEHEMIAH AND EZRA
I led the leaders of Judah to the top of the wall and organized two large choirs to give thanks. One of the choirs proceeded southward along the top of the wall to the Dung Gate… The second choir giving thanks went northward around the other way to meet them. I followed them, together with the other half of the people, along the top of the wall past the Tower of the Ovens to the Broad Wall,…
The two choirs that were giving thanks then proceeded to the Temple of God, where they took their places. So did I, together with the group of leaders who were with me. Many sacrifices were offered on that joyous day, for God had given the people cause for great joy. The women and children also participated in the celebration, and the joy of the people of Jerusalem could be heard far away. Nehemiah 12:31, 38, 40, 43 NLT

JEHOSHAPHAT
Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout. After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. 2 Chronicles 20:19, 21-22 NLT

LESSONS FROM THEIR LIVES
The passages above tell us about how different groups of choirs were organized to lead or represent the people in thanksgiving and worship, and they show the communal nature of worship in songs.
These men weren’t performers—they were ministers (servants). Many who claim to be in the music ministry seem more focused on becoming celebrities than servants. Many so-called gospel musicians have lost the fear of God and instead pursue popularity, profit, and applause.
True music ministers aren’t known by their name—they’re known by their fruit (Matthew 7:20).
In the next part, we will look at the true purpose of music ministers.
