THE BEGINNING OF THE SABBATH
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Exodus 20:8-11 NIV
Some church groups believe that Saturday is the Sabbath day and those who go to church on Sundays are not pleasing God. Others believe that Sundays are the Holy Day, and those who don’t go to church meetings on Sundays are making a mistake.

THE ORIGIN
When you hear the word ‘Sabbath’, what comes to mind? A church group? A day of the week?
Let’s go way back to the beginning.
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Genesis 2:2-3 NIV
The word for “rest” here is “Shabath”, and it means to cease, that is, desist from exertion. If we look at it this way, we can say, that on the 7th day, the rest was established.
Now, how do we know if God rested on Saturday or Sunday? And is the Sabbath really about a day of the week?
