There was a boy at Haumenibake who had a huge boil on the left side of his face. It was very painful, and looked just terrible. His father said to me, “Brother Mel, you told us about Jesus and the living God. You said that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Since you have told us the stories about Jesus healing people 2,000 years ago, let’s just pray now and Jesus will heal my son, won’t He?”
I got scared, you know, because I had never experienced that Jesus could heal people. I knew it was in the Bible, and we believed the Bible; we confessed it and knew it. But I want to tell you, to know your Bible and to believe it all the way through is not the same as to put your Bible into practice. To know it in your head is one thing, but to apply it to your heart and everyday life is another thing.
That man said to me again, “Brother Mel, please pray for my son.”
A Scared Prayer
I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want them to know I was so scared. I prayed real hard in my heart and I said, “Lord, what must I do?”
The Lord said to me, “Just pray for them. You are not the healer. I, Jesus Christ, am the healer. You have told them about Me; now let Me do the job.”
So I said to the man, “Okay, brother, I’ll pray and you just believe the Lord.”
Then I prayed, “Lord, I’m not Reverend So-and-so, but I just believe you and I want to pray for my dear brother.”
I put my hand on him as I prayed for his healing, and after I said, “Amen,” I expected something to happen.
When it looked like nothing was going to happen, and before they could ask me another question, I said, “I’m sorry, but I have another appointment and I have to leave now.” I just left there right away. You know why? I couldn’t wait to see what God would do, because I was scared that they might ask me, “Why hasn’t God healed him yet?”
“Lord, I believed You, and now that the young man is not healed, I just don’t know what will happen to them,” I prayed.
The Miracle Unfolds
The next morning, the father of this young man came to me. I thought maybe he was going to ask me to pray again or tell me there was something wrong with that boy. But he smiled and said, “Brother Mel, I have good news. Maybe two minutes after you left us, suddenly God touched my son and that boil broke. It was just wonderful! From yesterday until today, my son can eat and there have been days when he couldn’t eat, he could only drink. I just came to tell you how wonderful your Jesus is.
