The Gift of New Songs and the Experience of Freedom
Receiving a New Song
On Sunday, the day I received my deliverance, Pastor also prayed that we would receive new songs. Either on Monday or Tuesday, I was lying on my bed, singing a particular GLH song. Suddenly, I began hearing sentences in my head, so I paused. I started humming and wondered whether I should sing the words I was hearing.
As I mentioned earlier, I rarely sang new songs because I often felt I was singing from the flesh. I also thought the lyrics had to rhyme or that I needed a good instrumental background. Because of these expectations, I was sceptical that the words I heard would sound good.
Just then, I remembered Pastor’s instruction that we should open our mouths and God would fill them with songs. So, I began singing the sentences I had heard. The tune changed and became more interesting. The words kept coming, and whenever I could not hear any, I would sing in the Spirit, and more words would follow.
Although I cannot recall all the lyrics, I remember that the song was about praising God and was also connected to the army of the Lord. This brought me comfort in that regard. Not all the lyrics rhymed, yet I was still very happy with the song. It flowed freely, and I sang without much restraint.
The Conviction to Testify
When Pastor asked those who had received new songs to stand up, I felt instantly convicted. He also rebuked us for not testifying, as though receiving new songs were an ordinary occurrence.
I realised that it was not an ordinary thing for me. I thank God that I was among those who experienced it. I am also grateful for the confirmation He gave me through that experience.

Another Confirmation
I received another confirmation through an experience the following Thursday morning. For about two weeks, people had been asking the question, “Who woke up with a song?” during the morning meetings.
However, when the hostel head asked the question on Thursday morning, I suddenly realized that I had indeed woken up with a godly song. I had awakened with the hymn: “Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord, Satisfy this craving of my soul. Bread of Heaven, fill me till I want no more, Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.”
I was so happy when I realised this. Since then, I have slept and woken up without hearing worldly songs playing in my head. Instead, I have heard only godly songs when waking up.
Experiencing Freedom from Worldly Songs
At different times, songs still come to mind. When they do, I either rebuke them or sing a godly song. I have noticed that one particular song often comes to mind in such situations. It is our song, “Sounds of Freedom.” The chorus says: “For freedom, we were set free, That we might free others, too. We hear the freedom bells ring, The Lord declares Jubilee.”
Whenever I sing this chorus, the worldly song stops playing almost immediately.
I am truly thankful to God for this freedom and for the experiences that have strengthened my faith. May His name be praised. Amen.
