There is this idol which I cannot see
An idol that will not just let me be
It hampers the completion of my liberty
This idol is the fearsome idol called ‘Me‘
This sounds strange but is quite true
I am hindered by ‘my self’ though I have no clue
‘Me’ demands that I give to it God’s due
To trade my birthright for a pot of stew
‘Me’ is a diligent teacher, always ready to instruct
‘Me’ says, “Obey God, but at your convenience and comfort”
“Walk in God’s ways as long as it does not yours obstruct”
“Immorality, impurity, and greed can be part of your construct”
‘Me’ says, “Follow my leadings and let Christ’s intermittently feature”
Following ‘Me’ and Christ will produce an immiscible mixture
For one will always be pushed out of the picture
A life without Christ as Lord has not a bright but fiery future
The Lord would have me set free
He wants serving Him to be my only reality
For then I will cease from being Satan’s casualty
And become one who leads others to the same liberty
Christ must be Lord of all or not Lord at all
If I will truly and fully on Him alone call,
I must discard ‘Me’ which has been a dividing wall
I must completely and constantly at the feet of Jesus fall
Lord, I want to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow
I want to go with You anywhere You lead today and tomorrow
I want to walk with You in times of joy and times of sorrow
I do not want to be a tool Satan can still sometimes borrow
So Lord, I pray that You give me eyes to see
Give me also ears that clearly hear from Thee
Give me an understanding heart and mouth to speak plainly
And rid me of all idols including the idol called ‘Me’
Amen!
