I am Going Home
I will go when my work is finished; therefore, when I am gone, nobody should be double-minded concerning the will of God for my death. I am going to go by the will of God, not the will of witches or wizards. No man can kill me. Many have tried to hurt me spiritually and physically to no avail. God has not given the key of the vault in which He has hidden me to any man or devil. He did not invest so much in me only to hand me over to the devil. I am indestructible by the grace of God, so are you if you know my Jesus. Here in Edo land, when a man dies, the wife is often accused of killing him. I share a beautiful life with my wife Margaret; she is the flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones. When I go, it will be by the will and call of God.
Idahosa on Preparing for Death
You may ask if I am preparing to die. Not at all. I hope to live for at least one hundred and twenty years, but if the Lord calls me before then, I am ready to answer, “Here I am, O Lord,” because death is gain. My going will be a glorious one; I will not be sick or taken from one hospital to another. Like Elijah, I will be gone before you can say Jack Robinson. Nobody will mourn me with regret because of prolonged illness.
The Day He Passed On
On Thursday, February 12th, 1998, Idahosa started the day as always. In his office, he asked for a cup of tea and said, “I am going home.” Later that afternoon, at lunch with guests from Oral Roberts University, he spoke about heaven, saying he was ready to go if called. He joked that the “Pure Heaven” juice on the table tasted like heaven’s drink. After showing Professor Don Petri the university master plan, he began saying, “Thank you, Jesus,” threw his head back, and passed on.
Doctors confirmed he was gone instantly. He was not sick; it happened exactly as he had said—he would be talking, and then be gone. When he died, many wailed in the streets. Even non-Christians could not believe it. He had brought honour to Benin City, making it the gospel headquarters of Africa.
Expansion of His Ministry and Global Credentials
Archbishop Benson Idahosa, founder of Church of God Mission International, established over 6,000 churches in Nigeria and Ghana before 1971. He was president of Idahosa World Outreach and Faith Medical Centre, and held positions in international Christian organizations.
He earned a Diploma in Divinity from Christ for the Nations Institute, a Doctorate of Divinity from Word of Faith College, and a Doctorate of Laws from Oral Roberts University. His motto was “Evangelism our Supreme Task.” He ministered in over 123 countries, holding crusades that drew hundreds of thousands, including a Lagos crusade attended by nearly one million people in April 1985. He also established Redemption Television Ministry with a potential audience of 50 million people.
Legacy of Archbishop Benson Idahosa
Benson Idahosa remains a symbol of unwavering faith, spiritual authority, and global evangelism. His teachings, ministries, and leadership continue to inspire millions across the world.
