Dear Eagle, your dwelling should be the high mountain,
From where you can drink from the purest fountain;
From where you will embark on many successful outings
And attack snakes that in others inspire fear and shouting.
Your vision ought to be very clear, accurate for scouting,
Your beak sharp to cut—not for whining and pouting.
Dear Eagle, you were made to fly;
You were designed to soar very high.
You were not made to flutter about and get by;
The ground, for you, ought not to be nigh.
You have the ability to renew your youth before you die—
All these, then, beg the question, “Why?”
Why are you limping to your death,
When you should be undergoing a rebirth?
Why do you give snakes a wide berth,
When you should be snatching them away from earth?
Why are you living in dryness and dearth,
When the good land should be your home and hearth?
Why can your eyes no longer see,
When they should be as clear as can be?
Why are your wings bound and not free,
When they should be spread as wide as the sea?
Why have you been made to bend the knee
To things that should obey your every decree?
All these happened because you forgot how to be an eagle.
You left your company to mix with ordinary people.
You didn’t mean to stray so far; you just wanted to “live a little.”
You didn’t fancy “fanaticism”; you wanted to walk down the middle.
Now your sharp beak has been exchanged for a pine needle,
And the vastness of your authority is now but a tittle.
Dear child of God, does this you implicate?
Do you personally with this poor, broken eagle relate?
Are you doing the good works for which God did you create?
Go to God, sit with His Word, and for Him patiently wait.
Your strength will be renewed—Isaiah 40:31 does dictate.
‘Tis a fact that if you read this, it is not yet too late.
Selah!
