The writers say that mornings are filled with the smell of flowers and rays of sunshine
You wake up to see your loved ones and everything is just fine
Chamomile tea, omelette, and toast for breakfast
And the fantasy is bound to forever last
Adulthood is painted in pastel colours
With Cupids all around you singing a lovesong chorus
You grow old yet you’re forever young
And the paradise they talk about is where you belong.
Oh dear one, wake up and smell the coffee
Waking up has not much to do with flowers and tranquillity
The reality involves yesterday’s responsibilities you pushed to today
You look at yourself in the mirror and sometimes have nothing to say
You wake up but don’t want to get up
You wish you could roll the sheets over you but time won’t stop
Am I a failure, or is this what all humans are going through?
Will I ever get out of this hamster wheel? When is the breakthrough?
Vanity upon vanity the preacher in Ecclesiastes calls it
Imaginations, fantasies, and the real world all in a box? They don’t fit
We can only wish, hiss, and be grateful for what we have
And look forward to moments when we laugh
Only one thing makes sense in this world of lies and metaphors
And that is the undeniable Divine force
Banking with God is the guarantee that you will one day wake up like the writers prophesy
To the smell of lavenders, in an aesthetically pleasing cottage, void of a sigh
He is the reason waking up is not so hard anymore
Each new day is an opportunity to get to know Him more
His ways, His ability to deliver, His saving grace
His Fatherhood, His heart, and His loving face
Yes, Lord! You give us the strength to keep on going
Even when in our fears we are drowning
You are our anchor in this dark world, where the dawn seems far
And You are our love, our life, our morning star.
