Lord, how can I connect with that girl?
At that time, he and his father escorted some of our young people to a musical youth rally held in Neumünster. All of the church youth from the region sent musical groups to represent them at this rally in a kind of talent contest. While there, a beautiful mandolin player caught his eye. She never looked his way, but he felt she noticed him. Every move she made ignited his imagination. At last, the musical group from Marne performed. She handled a mistake with grace, restarting the song beautifully. Reinhard was so impressed with her poise that he prayed asking the Lord if she was the one? Afterwards, he asked her pastor about her and arranged a pulpit swap to finally meet her. He learned about her family and calling to missions. Their friendship quickly blossomed, and he asked God to make it clear if Anni was the one He would choose for him to marry.
Anni is my Choice for you
Anni is My choice for you Meanwhile, his father campaigned against it. As he continued to pray, he felt the Lord say, “Anni is My choice for you.” Then he visited her again at Bible College, bought an engagement ring, and asked, “Anni, will you marry me?” She said yes, and they married in Flensburg, united in calling.
Pastor Reinhard Bonnke
After the Rendsburg campaign Reinhard conducted evangelistic campaigns. He moved to Flensburg, organized a six-week pioneer campaign, and finished with fifty believers. The problem of finding premises remained. In despair, he prayed, then drove around praying. He found a shuttered five-storey building, negotiated rent with a man in a wheelchair, and secured it for 250 deutschmarks including heating. The building became the church and their apartment after volunteers cleaned and painted it.
God called me to South Africa
During a Velberter Missions Board meeting, Reinhard insisted he must go to South Africa, not Zambia. He explained a vision of Johannesburg confirmed God’s specific calling. The board agreed; he would apprentice for a year under Reverend Stephanus Spies in Ermelo. Arriving in Durban, he was not allowed to preach and had to be ordained again. More shocking, he confronted apartheid: Spies told him, “Do not call black people brothers and sisters” and “do not shake hands with them.” Reinhard refused, saying, “If this gospel does not make them and us brothers and sisters in Christ, I do not wish to preach the gospel any more.” He struggled constantly with his tutor, dying a thousand deaths in this year of probation, yet refused to compromise. To be continued…
