Reinhard Bonnke Ministers in Lesotho
Reinhard ministers in Lesotho Reinhard and Anni moved temporarily to Ladybrand, unable to find housing in Lesotho. Here they found a large population of Africans. In 1968, Anni delivered their third child, Susanne Herta Bonnke. Reinhard traveled in his Volkswagen. Nearly all of Lesotho’s 1,200 miles of road were unpaved. He often drove as far as possible and then walked or rode a horse or mule to reach villages. The work was slow and difficult. People got saved, people got baptized. When fifty people attended a service, he thought the Great Outpouring had begun. He invited a well-known evangelist with a healing ministry. His ability in the pulpit resulted in invitations to white churches, but he refused, saying he came to Africa for the black people.
Printing and Distribution of Gospel Literature
Printing and distribution of Gospel literature Reinhard designed a Bible correspondence course, translated into Sesotho. Thousands enrolled, receiving a certificate with a red seal on completion. He produced the magazine Apostolic Message, later using a larger press. Reinhard began bicycle evangelism: unemployed men volunteered to use bicycles with lockable boxes to distribute the magazine and sell hymn books and Bibles. They received commission, and some became pastors. The colporteurs, printing press, magazine, Bible course, Bible School, and new church formed a coordinated programme. Many people were won for Christ, and in two years virtually the whole country of Lesotho was covered
Dolphin’s Story
Dolphin’s story In 1970, Dolphin Monese, a student and Jehovah’s Witness debater, saw Reinhard preaching in Maseru. Dolphin stepped forward to argue rather than accept Jesus and returned daily after school to debate. Reinhard countered from Scripture but it was not enough. One day, Reinhard sensed a powerful anointing. After that sermon, Dolphin said, “I am ready to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior.” Reinhard instructed him to burn all Jehovah’s Witness books. Dolphin agreed. They collected books from his house and grandmother’s house. Reinhard bought gasoline, and Dolphin lit the books, releasing him from a heavy religious yoke
I beg You, Sir, give me five minutes
In 1973, Reinhard went to Kimberley to preach. The church was whites-only, with 200 older people. Harold Horn showed him a disco packed with young people. Reinhard saw boredom, fear, loneliness, and insecurity on their faces. He knew he must preach there. He found the owner and asked for five minutes to address the young people. The owner agreed for midnight. When the clock struck twelve, Reinhard took the microphone and shouted, “Sit down, sit down, sit down. I’ve come all the way from Germany, and I’ve got something very important to tell you.” To be continued…
