A CLOSER LOOK AT THE PROMISE TO SEEKERS
In the last part, we began exploring what Jesus meant when He said, “All these things will be added unto you” if you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This week, let’s consider more of what “these things” refer to: food and clothing.
Genesis 28:20-21 (BSB) Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and watch over me on this journey, and if He will provide me with food to eat and clothes to wear, so that I may return safely to my father’s house, then the Lord will be my God.”
Deuteronomy 8:3-4 (BSB) He humbled you, and in your hunger,. He gave you manna to eat, which neither you nor your fathers had known. So that you might understand that man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothing did not wear out, and your feet did not swell during these forty years.
Proverbs 27:23, 26-27 (BSB) Be sure to know the state of your flocks, and pay close attention to your herds; … the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed you—food for your household and nourishment for your maidservants.

EVIDENCE FROM THE NEW COVENANT
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (ESV) But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
God’s commitment is repeatedly shown to be the provision of food and clothing for His people. This is not the same as every other thing on earth that you desire. Let’s reflect on this truth and discuss it further next time.
