Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19
Definition
a. a seal, i.e. the seal placed upon books

d. that by which anything is confirmed, proved, authenticated, as by a seal (a token or proof)
The noun σφραγις (sphragis) describes a seal, a wax blob impressed with a distinctive symbol that would secure a message and confirm its authenticity, or the instrument with which to make such an imprint, which was commonly a signet-ring that an authoritative person would wear on his person. Someone who bore the imprint of the seal was one assigned an office of great importance.
The proof or authenticity of one’s foundation is described as a two-fold seal:
- God knows those who are His – He sees the thoughts and intents of our hearts.
- Those who claim to be His are to separate themselves from lawlessness.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
This ‘seal‘ is the Spirit of God, who confirms to us that we are children of God (Romans 8:16) and leads us away from iniquity:
John 16:8-11
And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
