I have long awaited this day, this moment,
And right now, nothing else matters,
Except what – or who — is in front of me:
My opponent – God!
With fists set, I take my fighting stand, ready to do battle.
As I stand here, the weight of the moment and the
enormity of what is at stake bear down upon me.
It is a fight to the death, and only one comes out alive.
And it will be me.
I am ready to brawl, my heart is set, and there is no going back.
My heart pounds with anticipation, and every muscle in my body tenses as I prepare for the fight of my life.
Ready, set, fight!
I launch myself at Him with a flurry of my ‘Why me?’ punches,
Striking with all my might in rapid succession.
I can sense Him reeling under the assault, struggling to regain His footing.
But I give Him no chance to catch Himself.
Then I unleash a barrage of ‘You could have…’ upper-cuts and jabs, striking with deadly accuracy.
He certainly didn’t see that coming.
One strong ‘After all I did for You…’ blow to His stomach
Leave Him stunned and gasping for air,
And of course, my most devastating ‘You failed me!’ punch to His chest.
He certainly cannot survive this.
I stand back to look at my fine work; sweating and panting heavily,
Reveling in the feeling of power coursing through my veins.
I am done. Done? Yes, Done!
But why am I not satisfied?
Should I rip His heart out and crush it beneath my feet?
Will that satisfy me?
Yes! Finish Him off!
With fierce determination, I pick up the Sword and walk towards Him.
I raise it high above my head and strike hard.
The sword tears through flesh easily and hits the mark.
But then I realize:
It’s not God’s heart that lies before me, but my own.
With that, I fall to my knees, my heart in my hands,
And I hand it over to Him – the One I made my opponent.
Then I understood: the fight was never with Him, but with myself.
And in this moment of clarity, I died.
Indeed, only one came out alive,
And it wasn’t me.
