Bonnke Imprisoned
Reinhard was blacklisted from a Muslim country after earlier meetings. Believing the ban was lifted, he entered on a tourist visa but was detained at the airport. He secretly texted his secretary, Ilka, asking for prayer and embassy help. Officials insisted his name remained on the blacklist. When Ilka booked him a flight, guards checked Lufthansa and found no record-until Reinhard insisted they use uppercase letters, revealing his reservation. Minutes before departure, he was escorted onto the plane.
“If You Come to Khartoum We Will Shoot You”
Six months before 9/11, Reinhard received a threat from Osama bin Laden after leading Muslims to Christ in Sudan: “If you come to Khartoum we will shoot you.” Bonnke prayed, “Lord, shall I go?” God replied: “You are Satan’s prime target for destruction, but you are My prime target for protection. Go.” He went. Upon arrival, security officials cancelled the crusade after finding 13 landmines planted in the crowd area. Muslims who had brought their sick to be healed rioted in the streets.
Martyrdom of Sunday Aranziola
Martyrdom of Sunday Aranziola In 2001, Sunday Aranziola, a bass guitarist for Bonnke’s crusade, was martyred in Nigeria by Muslim extremists. They dragged him from his bed, demanding he say “Allahu akbar.” Sunday replied, “Jesus is Lord!”-his last words before they beat him to death. Christians threatened retaliation. Bonnke’s team chose a field far from the city mosque to avoid violence like the 1991 Kano riots where hundreds died and CfaN was banned from Nigeria for nearly a decade.
Passing the Mantle and Legacy
Locked in a hotel room, Bonnke cried out, tired of men restraining him. God warned: drop the vision, I’ll find another. Bonnke repented and never looked back. Passing the Mantle In 2017, 77-year-old Bonnke preached his last crusade in Lagos, drawing 1.7 million people with 845,875 accepting Christ. He passed his mantle to Evangelist Daniel Kolendo. By retirement, Bonnke had seen 77 million souls come to Christ. He died peacefully on December 7, 2019. Over 79 million souls were won through his ministry.
