Farrah’s Conversion and Hidden Faith

When he finally told Farrah about his faith in Jesus, she recoiled in fear. “What if our relatives find out?” she exclaimed. “What then?” Soon, however, after seeing a change for the better in her husband, she invited Jesus into her life. For two years, the couple told no one about their new faith. Then Musa was fired from his construction job, and now he worried about how he could provide for his family. Not long after he returned home, the phone rang. A man offered Musa another construction job, which seemed like a miracle. “Could you meet with me this afternoon?” “I thought it was the answer to my prayers,” Musa said later.

Ambushed and Protected

He became uneasy, however, when he realized that the meeting location was an abandoned building, not a construction site. He had come to an ambush, not a job offer. Two men tried to force him to the back of the property, but Musa refused to leave the main road. The men began peppering him with questions about turning his back on Allah. Then they replaced their words with fists—to the stomach, face, and ribs. He began to wonder if he would leave the place alive. Suddenly, a car approached and screeched to a halt. The attackers stopped their beating. Someone in the car opened a door and yelled, “Get in! We will help you.”

Choosing Jesus at All Costs

Amazingly, news of Musa’s faith and firing already had spread throughout the small Christian community that rallied to help him. “He is a kafir!” yelled his tormentors as the car sped away. “He is a Christian and an evangelist!” Days later, the same two assailants showed up in his neighborhood and spread the news that Musa had rejected Allah. Neighbors then turned against him too. “If you do not go to the mosque and publicly recant your Jesus,” one declared, “we will throw you out of your home. You are not welcome here if you are not of Allah.”
Again, Christians came to help. “Come with us,” someone said. “We have a safe place for you and your family to live.” So the family loaded their possessions into the back of a pickup truck and left their home behind. “I felt blessed when this happened to me,” Musa said. At the truth-or-lie crossroads, he had dared to choose Jesus. He had counted the cost and dared to put everything at risk when he answered, “Yes, I am a follower of Christ.” That choice changes us and opens us up to experience the joy of the Lord. May the example of our family in Jesus encourage us also to be willing to give up everything for what is truly valuable. May we be bold in choosing whom we will trust and serve.
