Does the instruction to ‘be fruitful and multiply’ have anything to do with the number of children a couple should have?
What’s the ideal number of children a Christian couple should aim for? One? Two? Four? Six? More?! What do you think?
While we can still hold onto our views, let us poke around this topic in the light of Scriptures.

A Popular View:
Family planning holds a lot of weight in the times we live in. Most people, including Christians, approach the matter of raising a family from an economic standpoint. The popular thinking is that because ‘times are hard’, it is wise and sensible to have no more than 2 or 3 children. This way, couples can comfortably (or less uncomfortably) cater for them. Four children would be a stretch for most families. Anything above this number is automatically thought to be too large.
In addition, other proponents of smaller-sized families insist that too many children in a family will lead to envy and sibling rivalry, since the parents may not be able to give each child the same amount of love and attention that they need.
But is this the wisdom from the scriptures?
