The Reason for Children:
After God created Adam and Eve, we read: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful [parah: fruit; increase; grow], and multiply [rabah: become numerous;] , and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:28 KJV)
After the flood, He spoke to Noah and his sons similarly: “And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein..” (Genesis 9:7 KJV)
No question, increasing, growing, multiplying into large numbers, we see here to be a mandate from God. This was a command and not a suggestion.

BUT, hold that thought for a moment. In both these cases, the people being spoken to were the only people on earth! There was a severe underpopulation problem! There were not 8 billion people sucking dry the earth and its resources while all the time fighting over it!
Okay… Maybe we’ll think on the earth and its resources someday. (I’ve heard ‘rumours’ that we have endless untapped resources; even diamonds exist in overwhelming abundance!)
But of this we are sure; those addressed here absolutely had a godly duty to increase.
