The Reason for Children Contd.:
Last time, we saw scriptures that implied that from the beginning, God approved of couples having many children. Most of the patriarchs in the Bible had large families.
Why was this so? – Because they had a mandate to fill the earth with godly children who would in turn have more godly children.
But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. (Malachi 2:15 NKJV)
It is certainly Yahweh who joined you together. Your spirits and your bodies belong to him. So what he wants from you are godly children. So make sure that each of you men remain with/loyal to the woman that you married when you were young. (Malachi 2:15 T4T)
…since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” (Genesis 18:18-19 NKJV)
From the Scriptures above, we see that children are first a means of spreading [propagating] godliness in the earth. When people have them, they should teach them the ways of the Lord, so that they will also teach their own in turn who will spread it, and so on.
One generation will praise your deeds to another, and tell about your mighty acts! Psalm 145:4 NET
Next time, we shall consider more about what the Bible says, about bearing and raising children
