Modern Economic Realities: Actual Needs or Covetous Wants?
The truth is that most people today often prioritise an abundance of material possessions over essential needs, such as feeding, clothing, and shelter, which are things that God promises to provide. And they use it as an excuse not to bear many children.
And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I tell you, do not worry about your life, as to what you are to eat; nor for your body, as to what you are to wear. For life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing… Now if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things are what the nations of the world eagerly seek; and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be provided to you. Luke 12:22-23, 28-31
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

A Journey of Trust
The definition of “economic realities” today has become fluid and subjective, reflecting a matter of choice rather than actual economic constraints. So, most couples who choose to have one or 2 children are not actually prioritizing their well-being and that of their families. Rather, most times, it is a matter of greed, and a desire to lead an ostentatious and luxurious life.
And He said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these, we will be content. However, those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Root Problems
It is important that, like other decisions we make in life, we must be honest about our choices. Some people claim that they cannot afford more children, but they often pursue multiple cars and expensive possessions, obtained with resources that could be redirected to support a larger family. Many couples decide to have one or two children out of pride or convenience.
The scriptures never refer to children as a burden. Even though it is wise to consider your capacity to care for them, financial concerns should not deter you from having children. There are always ways that God will provide for the family that He gave to you. You must only make sure that you’re expecting Him to meet your “actual needs”, not your “covetous wants”. All these are things that trust in God and godly contentment will take care of.
So, where will you stand? The Greedy Bunch? Or the Trusting Few?
Next, we will consider how your thoughts may be due to Western influences.
